Texas Task Force Foundation Scholarships
The Texas Task Force Foundation is a privately funded, non-profit organization established in 2020 whose mission includes awarding scholarships to Texas Task Force members pursuing their degree and to high school seniors who are children of current Texas Task Force members. Scholarships are awarded to those best personifying the dedication, hard work, and pursuit of excellence historically exhibited by the members of the Texas Task Force.
2025 Travis L. Maher Public Service Scholarship
In 2025, the Texas Task Force Foundation will award a scholarship to a high school senior planning to pursue a public service career in memory of Travis L. Maher.
Travis was a founding member of the foundation in 2020, a 21-year veteran of Texas A&M Task Force 1, a Battalion Chief with the Austin Fire Department, and a 1996 graduate of Texas A&M University.
Beyond his service with Texas A&M Task Force 1, where he responded to major disasters, including Ground Zero after 9/11. Travis was a leader and mentor to many throughout his career. He played a vital role in the TX-TF1 Water Rescue Team, served as a Task Force Leader, and was widely regarded as “the face of disaster response.”
In the final two years of his life, Travis served as the Foundation’s Director for US&R. As one of its six founding members, he was instrumental in shaping its creation and direction. Travis passed away from 9/11-related cancer in 2022, leaving behind his loving family.
- $2000 scholarship for high school senior that is pursuing a public service career. Does not have to be related to task force member, but can be.
- 1 scholarship awarded per year
- Application is submitted by mail with the same type of process as other scholarships they will be applying for.
- Deadline to submit March 15, 2025.

- Up to 2 scholarships awarded per year
- Application is submitted using a google form with a later due by date since it doesn’t need to be as detailed as a high school senior applying for a scholarship
- Intended to help offset some of the costs of going back to school
- Deadline to submit June 30, 2025
